Commercial Construction in the Village

There are a number of commercial projects that are becoming more visible around the Village as we head into the summer.  A flurry of activity on construction sites is taking place around the Costco, where three new commercial buildings will be open at some point and time this year.  New businesses that plan to take up shop in this area include Starbucks, Cellcom, Great Clips, Buffalo Wild Wings, Mattress Firm, and Discount Tire.

Elsewhere in the Village, new construction is taking place on Development Drive as well as some major alterations of some existing businesses in the community.  We expect the year to continue strong as a couple of other projects will soon submit applications for expansions as well as new construction.

Outdoor Tree ID Workshop on July 13th

The Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) is a real threat to our ash trees.  A third of the Village's trees (park or right-of-way) are ash, not to mention the amount of private trees that are resident owned.  When EAB gets to Bellevue, ash tree owners will have some hard decisions to make.  As part of a grant from the WI DNR the Village is offering a FREE Tree ID workshop at the Brown County UW Extension.  Residents can go to the UW Extension Office and walk through their grounds to learn about trees that are appropriate replacements for ash trees.  The Tree ID workshop is lead by UW Extension Horticulturist, Vijai Pandian.

Registration is required for this free event.  Registration deadline is Tuesday, July 5th.  You may register online HERE or by calling the Village offices at 468-5225.

The Tree ID workshop is Wednesday, July 13th from 6:00-7:30pm at the UW Extension Office (1150 Bellevue St.)

Classes are funded in part by an Urban Forestry Grant from the State of Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Forestry Program as authorized under S.23.097, Wisconsin Statutes and are made possible by a partnership with UW Extension.  Classes are open to residents and non-residents.

New Phase of Bedford Heights Under Construction

Construction continues on the next phase of the Bedford Heights subdivision which is located south of Main Street in a wooded and scenic area between Klondike Road and I-43.  This next phase will add 19 new single-family residential lots on the extension of a new cul-de-sac of Rodeo Drive.  Some of the new lots will back up to a future Village Park as well as existing landscaped stormwater management ponds designed to appear like amenities.

Interest in this subdivision as well as in building new homes elsewhere in Bellevue continues to be strong.  The Village is working with developers to identify areas where new subdivisions could be constructed.  17 single-family permits have been issued so far through June this year compared to 20 in all of 2015.

Public Safety Day at KinderCare

On Monday, June 13th the Bellevue Fire Department and the Brown County Sheriff’s Office visited KinderCare for their Public Safety Day. While the weather wasn’t the greatest, the rain held off long enough for each kid to tour the fire truck and squad car. The kids were shown the different vehicles, what each vehicle carried, and what the tools are used for. The kids were even allowed to “drive” the Ladder truck! At the end each child received a fire hat and a fire department tattoo. Thank you to the KinderCare staff for hosting us and thank you to the kids for being such great listeners!

Fire Department Completes Propane Tank Training

If you were anywhere near Fire Station #2 recently, located at 1811 Allouez Ave., you likely noticed a large fire ball. No, the station was not on fire! Members of the Bellevue, Ledgeview and De Pere Fire Departments took part in a propane emergency training. The training taught firefighters how to deal with propane leaks and fires safely and efficiently. The first part of the training was a classroom portion which covered the different ways propane is transported and what types of containers firefighters are likely to encounter based on the location of the incident. Firefighters also learned about the less common containers, how to identify these containers, and where these containers will likely be located.

After the classroom portion of the training was completed it was time for the practical hands on portion. Here, firefighters trained on techniques to fight the fire in order to make a safe approach and shut off the corresponding valves in order to stop the leak. The propane fires included grill, a forklift, a bulk tank, and propane terminal piping. Each emergency had its own unique challenges and required a great amount of teamwork and coordination. The training was a big success and a great job was done by everyone involved! We would like to extend our thanks to the Wisconsin Propane Education and Research Council (WPERC) for supplying the propane, Fire LLC and its instructors for conducting the training, and Ledgeview and De Pere Fire for participating.
