Village Board To Consider CTH EA / WI 29 Connection Alternatives

The State of Wisconsin Department of Transportation and Brown County Board of Supervisors have selected a preferred alternative for improvements to the corridor connecting Interstate 43 to STH 29 and future CTH EA (S. Huron Road).

WisDOT considered several design alternatives.  According to WisDOT officials, the preferred Alternative balances safety, mobility, and access for future land development.

The Village Board is now charged with determining its preferred option between two final design alternatives to connect Interstate 43 to State Highway 29 and future County Highway EA in the village.

The Village Board is scheduled to determine its preferred option at their next meeting scheduled as follows:

6:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 24, 2012
Village Hall / Public Safety Building
3100 Eaton Road
Bellevue, WI 54311

The Town of Ledgeview, Brown County, and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) preferred Alternative 2, a straight line corridor between Interstate 43 and Willow Road. As stated earlier the Village of Bellevue preferred Alternative 4, an extended semi-circular corridor between I-43 and Willow Road.

The constructed cross sections for both alternatives are consistent with an urbanized, modified three-lane roadway. Examples of similar road cross sections can be found at S. Huron (CTH JJ to Willow Road) and Eaton Road (Manitowoc Rd to Ontario).

The total estimated cost for each Alternative is as follows:
  • Alternative #2 = $6,268,000
  • Alternative #4 = $7,909,000
The total additional cost for Alternative 4 over Alternative 2 is an estimated $1,641,000.
(According to WisDOT, the State is willing to fund construction costs associated with building Alternative 2 between Interstate 43 and State Highway 29 (Kewaunee Road). In the event that the local jurisdictions select Alternative 4, the State will construct this alternative; however funding will be limited to the cost equivalent for construction of Alternative 2 and the roundabout at Kewaunee Road.)

The following videos are computer generated representations of the road designs based on the two considered Alternatives.
