Recreation Campus To Break Ground In 2012

The Village of Bellevue in collaboration with the Bay Area Recreational Campus (BARC) is pleased to announce that the timetable for the construction of playing fields on the east side of Bellevue will be advanced. The Village of Bellevue has agreed to match the investments made by contributors up to $2.25 million. $750,000 of this donation will be utilized in the near future, with groundbreaking taking place in June of 2012.

Although the Village of Bellevue has made a significant contribution to the project, an estimated $4.5 million is needed to achieve the final phase. BARC has already secured an estimated $1 million in contributions from area parents, foundations, businesses and individuals who see the value in investing in recreational facilities for area youth. Construction of the first phase will begin in 2012, with athletic events beginning in late 2013.

The Bay Area Recreational Campus is a non-profit organization that organizes youth athletic groups and activities. Construction of the recreational campus will take place in two phases, and is anticipated in total to be a $6 – 7 million dollar project.

“This recreational campus will serve not only Bellevue, the east side of Green Bay, but all of Northeastern Wisconsin. The project will benefit the entire greater Green Bay Metro Area, and truly be an asset to people of all ages,” said Steve Jossart, co-president of BARC.

This major recreational facility will be located at 3833 Eaton Road (Shaha Memorial Park). With 58 acres, the campus will host mostly youth sports including soccer, football, rugby and lacrosse. It will serve youth from throughout the Green Bay metro area, surrounding communities and all of Northeastern Wisconsin.

The facility will host 10-12 regulation playing fields when the entire development is complete. Plans include a clubhouse, restrooms, parking facilities and a lighted “championship” field with artificial turf that can be used the entire year. When fully developed, the complex will attract tournament play from all over the Midwest.
